Day Four – 23.03.12

March 24, 2012

Good Morning EL Fans,

Have you enjoyed the sneak peak behind the scenes so far?

Well, as you’ll see from our photos; Friday was a really exciting day, more models, more looks, more cuts, more colours and more styles…

Without giving too much away, we can tell you that in our true global style, Friday’s models (a girl and a boy) injected a taste of the Orient. What can we say; the looks we given them look amazing, the hair especially just came to life.

The excitement in the studio has been rising all week and next week promises to be even bigger and even more exciting (although, we might have to calm Tyler down, so he doesn’t keep pretending to be in the Shining…)

From everyone on the shoot, we hope you have a great and relaxing weekend, with what we’ve got planned for next week, you’re going to need it…

Are you ready yet?

Say Hello to our next Schwarzkopf Professional Ambassador we want to introduce you: the lovely Lesley Lawson. She began her career in 1984 at a prestigious London hair academy, and spent 18 years travelling the globe working on shows, seminars and advertising. Lesley then joined the fabulous Real salon, where she tends to a high-profile clientele that includes Gwyneth Paltrow or Elle Macpherson. Lesley who is very well-dressed herself has also worked on fashion shows for the likes of John Richmond, Raf Simons, and Alexander McQueen.

Lesley has a love for the entire hair profession but her absolute passion is colour because she believes all hair can look even more amazing with the addition of colour. She says: “When you understand skin tones and the colour wheel it’s so satisfying to be able to make people look and feel more gorgeous which is such a great feeling.”

When asking Lesley how she made her way to Essential Looks, she goes back to the past:
“I knew the inspiring Tyler and Simon Ellis from working at Vidal Sassoon when I was asked over to Hamburg for a meeting to discuss the relaunch of “Vibrance” seven years ago. From there I was invited to work on my first Essential Looks – and the rest as they say is history!” A pretty history, and very inspiring – especially if you know how often Lesley does colour her hair: “It grows so fast that I colour my hair every 3 weeks – most of the time I find myself more often than not in a hotel bathroom gloves on and applying the colour myself since I am away a lot.”

If you want to ask Lesley about colouring feel free to post a comment!

First shooting day: futuristic

March 16, 2011

In motion: Model and Matt

Look at those shoes!

The EL Crew: quite a lot of people, isn’t it?

Yesterday, was a day-off for some of the EL team whilst the sets were built up for the main collection shoot. Lesley and Chanel spent their day shopping and enjoyed a relaxing massage together with Jana. After, they went to see the “Gilbert & George” exhibit with Matt and Tyler which everyone recommends. Steve was still at the studio (well someone has to work!!!) and met with the EL photographer Peter Gehrke and the EL clothes stlist Lucy Manning.

So, the whole team is well-prepared for the first shooting day with Peter Gehrke.

Today we had three female models in the Mount Ray studio: Esmee, Heidi und Fiona. After the A2Z make-over last week, the girls all wear a very conceptual, directional look with Geometry inspired clothes to haircuts and saturated colours to compliment their looks. Gudrun, the Make-up artist, and her assistant Isabell added some metallic Make-up which emphasised the cool direction.

And to all girls out there, you must have seen the shoes – they’re great to look at but supposedly hard to walk in. All together, we’ve seen the models with different hair styles which showcases the diversity of each look. Furthermore, we’ve got two different sets: one more daylight focused and the other with lots of strong white light to really show the colour techniques to perfection.

How do you like what you see so far?
Stay tuned for the boys tomorrow!

We do not only want to show you the creative work we’re doing in terms of the new EL collection but for those of you that are new to the EL Blog, we also want to introduce you the people who make this happen. So please meet Tyler Johnston, our Essential Looks Global Ambassodor. He’s one of the hairdressing industry’s most sought-after session stylists for many reasons, and we’re sure you’ve seen some of his work before. Especially, if you’re someone who either likes to scroll through lifestyle magazines or likes to watch soccer!

Now you’re wondering? Of course, we can explain! Tyler’s been doing the hair styles for lots of female celebrities, including Lilly Allen, Keira Knightly, Cate Blanchet and little blogger fellow Tavi (“Style Rookie”) for several years now and therefore is featured in magazines like VOGUE, Vanity Fair, Pop or i-D. But one of his most popular hair cuts was made for a man, David Beckham. For him, Tyler invented the infamous “Beckham Mohican” of 2001 and is still working with David and his wife Victoria, a style icon herself.

Tyler, who started his career at Vidal Sasson in the creative hotbed of Eighties Manchester and worked as an Art Director at the prestigious Knightsbridge salon, started to work for Essential Looks about 8 years ago. It was Simon Ellis who brought him in as session hair dresser. Tyler says he’s enjoying working for Schwarzkopf Professional very much because he believes in the company’s direction and has – within his engagement – every freedom to create his adventurous ideas. Inspiratons for his ideas Tyler is getting from the streets and his travels.

The biggest compliment is for Tyler when he sees how salons worldwide recreate his looks in their own way. As Tyler doesn’t want to dictate something but instead encourage hairdressers to do their own interpretation. At our actual shoot, Tyler is one more time working together very closely with Steve Hogan (EL Creative Director). Both guys push each creativly to try to inspire hairdressers all over the world.

Please find more information about Tyler on his website.

In case you got any questions for Tyler, you now have the chance to leave a comment which will be answered by him.

Girls just wanna have fun

March 13, 2011

Lesley (dark hair, pink lipstick), Chanel (the blond lady) and Model Aya (guess who)

Matt (in a very glamourous look) and Ricardo (who wants to get the same)

During the last three days we have been doing the making-of videos. So  far: Girls only! But what did Cyndy Lauper sing? “Girls just wanna  have  fun.” It’s true. Our models look so different after their new Essential Looks haircuts and colours. For example Aya, a 20 year old German model who  arrived at the studio with a dark blonde tone blonde now has the biggest colour contrast possible,  very futuristic. Our SKP Global colour ambassador Lesley and her assitant Chanel did a stunning job which was filmed in our A2Z style which we are working on during the first days of the shoot.

Talking about films, did you know that our film team from Final Kid productions Charly,  Wendy, Oscar and Robert are filming two hours everyday to produce two short A2Z videos each day? And not to forget, we were also visited by Gudrun,  our main EL collection Make-up Artist, who was briefed by Tyler about the looks for next week’s shooting.

Enjoy your weekend, followers! We heard it should be sunny and warm.
The lights in the studio are also quite sunny and warm.
